Free Resources for Teaching Math Online

    Free online resources

NCTM is here to support the mathematics education community, not just during challenging times like these but 365 days a year. With so many teachers currently transitioning to online teaching, we offer these free resources to support teachers and their students.

The annual Business Meeting would have been part of the NCTM Centennial Annual Meeting and Exposition program in Chicago, which was cancelled after the state of Illinois and city of Chicago mandated the cancellation of all large-scale events exceeding 1,000. Because of the cancellation, this meeting took place via Zoom. NCTM President Robert Berry presented an overview of NCTM activity and accomplishments over the past year. A summary of the meeting can be accessed below.

Problems to Ponder/ Growing Problem Solvers/ Ear to the Ground

From Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12

Problems to Ponder are individual problems or groups of problems that are grade-band specific, much like those that appeared in NCTM's legacy journals: the Math by the Month department in Teaching Children Mathematics, the Palette of Problems in Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, and the Calendar in Mathematics Teacher.

Growing Problem Solvers are rich tasks that can potentially span four points along the PK-12 learning trajectory (elementary, intermediate, junior high, and high school) and can elicit higher-order thinking. Each task is a low-floor/high-ceiling task with multiple entry points, allowing for a variety of solution strategies and reaching many different learners. A teacher page explores the math and potential instructional strategies.

Ear to the Ground features voices working in various corners of the mathematics education world. Readers hear from book authors, conference presenters, bloggers, and others and get accompanying digital enhancements to keep up-to-date on current happenings in mathematics education."
